Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles has had his fair share of mistakes, but his latest bold move might be backfiring on him after just two games.
Bears fans were screaming for the team to make a trade to bring in an edge rusher after Poles' other mistake in free agency, Dayo Odeyingbo, suffered a season-ending injury against the Cincinnati Bengals. Poles' response to that was trading a Day 3 draft pick to the Cleveland Browns to acquire defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.
No Bears fan was particularly excited about the move, as it felt more like a punt at defensive end and putting their faith in Austin Booker. After two games of being on the team, fans were right not only to be straight up bored about the Tryon-Shoyinka move, but to blast Poles for making it.
It might be time to call the Tryon-Shoyinka trade a flop and move on with our lives
Looking at the stats, be prepared to be as underwhelmed as possible. Tryon-Shoyinka has a grand total of....one tackle. He's played 19 snaps on defense and another four on special teams.
Sure, he's new to the team and still learning the defensive system. Also, it's understood that the Bears want to give Booker more snaps to see if he can be the pass-rusher they hoped he would be.
There was maybe a small glimmer of hope that he would at least play better or more than he has. Everyone knew this would be a less-than-exciting move, but it just underscores the fact that Poles needed to make a bigger move at the trade deadline than he did.
Look at what the Philadelphia Eagles did at the trade deadline getting edge rusher Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins for a third-round pick. Poles couldn't make that kind of move for the Bears?

The hope is that Booker will live up to expectations, which he has been solid so far, but with the team 7-3, Chicago needs to get more aggressive going forward, as there is now a light at the end of the tunnel for the franchise.
