The Chicago Bears have finally gotten a new edge rusher that will help them get some pressure on the quarterback, but it won't be one that will get fans excited.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the Bears made a trade with the Cleveland Browns. The Bears acquire defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka in exchange for a sixth-round pick. This move was in direct response to the loss of Dayo Odeyingbo, who tore his Achilles tendon in the win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Tryon-Shoyinka was a former first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in 2021. He spent four seasons there before moving on to the Browns in the offseason. He has racked up 36 quarterback hits and 15 sacks in his five years in the NFL.
Bears made the move, but this might not be it for them
The Poles did make a move at the trade deadline, which is excellent, but this one won't excite the fan base. Edge rusher is something they needed, but Tryon-Shoyinka didn't exactly scream out Pro Bowler.
With this, he seems to be signaling that Austin Booker is likely to step into the starting lineup for the Bears on the defensive line alongside Montez Sweat. Booker is coming off a game where he had one sack and one forced fumble against the Bengals.
Who else are the Bears going to lean on with the pass rush? It's not exactly one that will help Chicago in the future—just a temporary fix.
The pressure might come to the secondary to improve and create more turnovers. More of that same pressure will be on Sweat to get to his Pro Bowl form from two years ago. He has made a sack in each of the last three games, so it makes sense.

Bears fans should be okay with the move, but not one they will be bragging about, like the Colts getting Sauce Gardner.
