One of the biggest mysteries with the Chicago Bears in the 2026 season is what is going on with starting nickel corner Kyler Gordon.
Throughout the offseason, Gordon has been recovering from the soft-tissue injury he suffered last year, which limited him to just three games. He never participated in OTAs or training camp, forcing the Bears to put him on the PUP list when finalizing the 53-man roster.
This leaves the Bears in an awkward situation with what is happening with Gordon and not knowing what's going on. As the media keeps asking questions, general manager Ryan Poles is starting to join head coach Ben Johnson in his frustration.

Poles held his first press conference after finalizing the 53-man roster and initial practice squad. The first question was about Gordon, and Poles got honest about whether he thinks Gordon will actually step on the field in 2026.
"I don't know. I would hope so. Still have hope there. He's going to have to continue to work hard and get back to playing football again."
After several other questions about Gordon, Poles finished by saying players have to play through discomfort, and the cornerback isn't there. there. How Poles ended the Gordon topic, though, says it all.
"We're not progressing as fast as we would like. That's really all I have to say about that."
Bears fans truly feel like they are sitting in the Twilight Zone with what is going on. Poles has no idea what's going on, and Gordon doesn't seem to be getting better.
Chicago gave Gordon a three-year, $40 million contract extension last offseason to be the main nickel corner. He has three games to show for it, and now he has three games, and it is reaching a breaking point for everyone.
The Bears may need to start considering life after Gordon, and it appears they already are. Rookie fourth-round pick Malik Muhammad might end up being the starting nickel to begin the 2026 season with Gordon out. That was not part of the plan for the Bears, as Muhammad was supposed to compete with Tyrique Stevenson for the job.
