While the Chicago Bears may not have the splashiest moves from free agency, general manager Ryan Poles has certainly stayed busy with his signings.
Poles has been able to collect a plethora of names to add depth, including guys like Coby Bryant, Devin Bush, and Kalif Raymond. While speaking at his first press conference since free agency began, Poles discussed the players the team has brought in to bolster the roster.
"We wanted speed and explosiveness. Guys who are passionate about football. Leadership."
Ryan Poles knows what kind of players he wants
Raymond fits Poles' "speed and explosiveness" comment to the T as he was an elite returner and slot receiver for the Detroit Lions over the years. Bears head coach Ben Johnson knows this better than anyone since he was Raymond's offensive coordinator in Detroit.
Bryant is another who fits what Poles is looking for, having been part of a Super Bowl championship team with the Seattle Seahawks. He might be younger than Kevin Byard, who has since departed for the New England Patriots, but he can lead by example while making the plays that helped the Bears' defense stand out last season.
Bush is a leader who has been in the NFL for a while and even at 27 is starting to play his best football. He can help fill the gap that was left when Chicago let go of Tremaine Edmunds from the team.
Bears fans were hoping for more big names to come in and help this football team, but instead got a lot of good players at a lower cost who can do the same thing. Poles isn't exactly going out of his way to find superstar players, but he is finding guys who can make an impact immediately without breaking the bank.

Chicago is doing this the right way and has so far brought in the right guys to get this team into the postseason again, with hopes of making a longer run this time.
