Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles was clear on his motive in the second round as the team selected Iowa center Logan Jones, but he was done with the round after that.
Despite holding the 60th overall pick of the draft, Poles decided to make a deal with the Tennessee Titans, as the Bears sent their other second-round pick to the Titans. In return, Chicago acquired the 69th and 144th overall picks.
This will now give the Bears two third-round picks in the draft and add another Day 3 pick they needed. They selected Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman with their 25th overall pick
Bears make a trade in the NFL Draft with the Tennessee Titans
The Bears were hoping to get more Day 3 picks, as there was going to be a big drop-off between the fourth round and the seventh round. This will at least help them get another one they can use to keep them somewhat busy on Day 3 of the draft.
Last year, Chicago had success with their Day 3 picks as running back Kyle Monangai was the highlight after being picked in the seventh round. That ended up paying off with 783 rushing yards and five touchdowns in his rookie year.
This now gives the Bears more room to go to work in the third round as well to fill in-depth positions on the roster. Positions like edge rusher, offensive tackle, defensive tackle, and wide receiver are some of the positions they have to be addressed in this draft.

Poles made a solid move to add an extra pick that was desperately needed for Day 3. This might not be the last trade they make, as the Bears could keep moving back in the draft to add more picks.
