While the Chicago Bears have been busy putting their practice squad together now that roster cuts are essentially over with, Ryan Poles is tasked with filling in the cracks at key positions. Running back is definitely a concern, but in the team's most recent practice, another position became worrisome.
Bears starting safety Jaquan Brisker left practice on a cart Wednesday, which is a sight Bears fans did not want to see in the least bit. A player often injured, Brisker is talented and effective when he's out there. At the moment, the extent of his injury is unknown. But, the Bears may want to bring in reinforcements.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to cut Shilo Sanders the day after his preseason ejection, but maybe we didn't catch the whole story. That's neither here nor there, but Deion Sanders' son is now a free agent and went unclaimed on waivers.
The Bears should take their chances and sign Shilo Sanders
Depending on how severe the injury is to Brisker, Chicago will need another safety. At the very least, snagging Sanders to place on their practice squad makes a ton of sense.
Right now, his reputation has dipped a little bit because of his recent ejection. However, like I noted above, we might not have gotten the whole story. It appeared that Sanders was getting his facemask pulled by Bills tight end Zach Davidson which led him to retaliate.
As we know, the player who retaliates is often the one punished, and that's what happened.
But, as for Sanders' play on the field, he became a training camp darling. He was known as a hard worker and someone coaches really grew to like. Even All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield Jr. called Sanders his "favorite rookie teammate" earlier this summer, which is high praise coming from a player of that magnitude.
Now, this isn't saying Sanders would step into Brisker's starting position by any means. But, getting him aboard for depth could be a positive.
In Brisker's place would be Jonathan Owens, who has performed well when called upon over his time with the Bears.
