Startling data shows exactly why Rome Odunze is dominating in Year 2

The way he's playing isn't even fair to opposing defenses.

What the Chicago Bears are getting out of Rome Odunze in Year 2 is nothing short of phenomenal, so far. In just four games, Odunze is officially breaking out. There is no question about it. The Odunze breakout is in full swing.

Bears fans haven't seen a wide receiver score like this in quite some time, and maybe, ever. Odunze's five touchdown catches in four games are good for second in the league only to his division mate, Amon-Ra St. Brown over in Detroit.

Fans are seeing Odunze open what seems like every play. That's hyperbole, but it isn't that far off from reality. In fact, according to Fantasy Points Data, an outlet that primarily tracks fantasy-friendly data, Odunze ranks number one in the NFL when it comes to separation win-rate vs. man coverage.

In case you're wondering, that percentage is 52.6 percent. DeVonta Smith rounds out the top five and he's all the way down at 37.5 percent.

Chicago Bears WR Rome Odunze is making defensive backs look silly

He really is always open. More often than not, Odunze is open.

This might be a sore spot to some, but remember last year when Odunze's father took to social media to point out how his son seems to be always open? Bears fans likely shared the same frustration, but that wasn't a Caleb Williams problem.

That was a Shane Waldron problem. Take a look at Jaxon Smith-Njigba's breakout the past couple of years with Seattle. No Waldron, no problem.

Back to the topic at hand, though, as Odunze is flat-out dominating the NFL. He is now on pace for a ridiculous 21 receiving touchdowns on the season which would shatter a previous franchise record of 13 held by Dick Gordon and Ken Kavanaugh and has held up since 1970.

Odunze has been this good since college, too. This isn't anything new. It's not a revelation or some sort of change in his game. This is purely the Ben Johnson effect.

Thanks to Johnson, both Caleb Williams and Odunze are set to break Bears records in the same season. What a world we're living in.

And, to make it even sweeter, four out of the Bears' next five games are against bottom-10 pass defenses. Odunze is cleared for takeoff in a way he wasn't even close to seeing last year, and the ascension has only begun.

Sit back and enjoy the ride, Bears fans. This franchise has their quarterback and WR1 locked down for a very, very long time.
