The Chicago Bears made their feelings very clear about Texas cornerback Malik Muhammad as they moved up five spots in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft to select him.
Muhammad made 30 tackles, four pass deflections, two interceptions, and one sack last year with the Longhorns as he earned a second-team All-SEC selection. Hook'em Headlines' Matt Wilson shared his thoughts on Muhammad and what Bears fans can expect from him.
"Malik Muhammad was a stud for the Longhorns at both outside corner and nickel in 2024 and 2025, and he impressed quite a few people at the Panini Senior Bowl earlier this year. His technical prowess and processing skills are what sets him apart from most of the other cornerbacks in this class, and he most likely locked himself into being a late day 2/early day 3 pick."
Texas expert gives Bears fans good news about Malik Muhammad
The Bears lost some key players in the secondary with Nahshon Wright and C.J. Gardner-Johnson out the door. They still have Tyrique Stevenson looking to get his CB2 job back, and the hope is that Zah Frazier will play in 2026.
Muhammad is fast and can use his speed to not get burned in coverage. While there are some things he needs to develop as a defender, the Bears are getting a guy with interesting traits.
There's a chance that going into training camp, Muhammad and Stevenson might be competing for the CB2 job. While Stevenson has plenty of experience, he fell out of favor with the Bears' coaching staff late in the season as he took a seat on the bench.
