The Chicago Bears suffered their 10th straight loss of the season, losing 6-3 to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. On their final home game of the season, they became a national embarrassment once again.
The offense was completely broken. They failed to score in the first quarter again, and the offensive line, with multiple starters missing, gave up seven sacks. Even more concerning is that as we enter the final game of the season next Sunday, Caleb Williams and receivers are still not on the same page, especially with fellow rookie Rome Odunze last night.
The much-maligned defense, despite its usual poor run defense and poor tackling, played well enough to keep the team in the game. It also helped the Seahawks did not play that well either. But you just knew the offense could not do anything at all because it could not keep Williams upright.
The Bears kept finding new ways to lose this season and last night's loss ended in a similar fashion. On their final drive, Thomas Brown turned into Matt Eberflus with his egregious decisions and clock management.
As the final home game ended, both the boos and fans chanting "sell the team" echoed throughout the stadium. Ryan Poles' seat should be scorching hot right now.
The Bears need to fire Ryan Poles immediately
The same man who gloated we will take the NFC North and never give back. The same man who boasted the depth on the offensive line before the season, only to see an offensive line ravaged by injuries and ineffectiveness.
This team is rotten to the core. The players stopped caring and playing with any effort a long time ago. With both Matt Eberflus and Shane Waldron long gone, the only person left to be blamed is Poles.
He had the audacity to admit that the offensive line was poorly constructed due to injuries and the lack of quick start, which goes back to the training camp when Eberflus was still employed. We have no idea why he is admitting it now, but it is not a good look on him, and he deserves no sympathy. Just like Eberflus, his arrogance and lack of awareness are difficult to ignore.
Though Kevin Warren gave him a vote of confidence on the day they fired Eberflus, it is difficult to envision any head coaching candidate wanting to work with Poles after tonight's game. Going from winning 7 games last year with Eberflus coaching to only 4 games this year with a 10-game losing streak is unacceptable. If Warren is having second thoughts, and the outcome of the Green Bay game next Sunday has no bearing on their decision, he should fire Poles by this weekend.
