Despite the Chicago Bears' unofficial depth chart saying one thing, the practices at training camp are telling a much different story.

There is currently a position battle going on at left tackle between Braxton Jones, 2025 second-round pick, Ozzy Trapilo, and Kiran Amegadjie. It's still too early to see who will win the battle, as this is one that could go on until the end of camp.

Jones was originally seen as the favorite since he started at left tackle last year. Trapilo is seen as the eventual replacement and the future left tackle of the Bears, whether that starts this year or sometime in the future. Amegadjie has had some reps with the first team, but feels like the long shot to win the job.

While fans are trying to figure out who is going to be the number one guy at left tackle, recent practices show that one of them might have the lead for winning the job.

Trapilo might end up being the starting left tackle in Week 1

During practice this week at camp, Trapilo has gone three straight days as the starting left tackle with Jones taking second-team reps. Of course, a lot can change and they could be rotating in and out, but it is an interesting choice for Trapilo to hold down the starting job three consecutive days instead of rotating every other day.

The biggest concern for Jones is his recovery from the ankle injury he sustained late last season, which resulted in him missing offseason workouts to recover. Chicago is seeking stability to protect quarterback Caleb Williams' blind side and requires someone who is 100% reliable.

On Tuesday, the team released its unofficial depth chart, which told a different story, with Jones as the number one left tackle and Trapilo as the backup. This is what most fans would have expected to see happen in Week 1 of the regular season, but keep in mind the key word here being "unofficial."

There are still about three weeks left of training camp and plenty of time for Jones or Trapilo to earn the job. Things might clear up a bit after the first preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but still plenty to figure out before that time.
