This Bears veteran could lose his job in a hurry at training camp

Chicago Bears training camp cannot come soon enough for this fan base, as the excitement building around the team has reached higher levels than any season in recent memory.

Much of it has to do with new head coach Ben Johnson being able to unlock Caleb Williams and the offense, and it's that side of the ball where we could see some fun battles. Specifically, veteran Olamide Zaccheaus might not last in his current role all that long.

Zaccheaus was signed as the likely starting slot receiver, and he'll probably get the respect from Johnson as the team's starter to begin camp. After all, he is the veteran. But, rookie Luther Burden III is right behind him and it may not take long for the two to switch spots on the depth chart.

Olamide Zaccheaus will have the starting Bears slot role, but not for long

It helps Zaccheaus' case that Burden comes into camp having dealt with an early injury, although it doesn't seem like an injury that should linger or reoccur. For right now, the fact that Burden comes in having less time on the field than the Bears would've liked to see is something that goes in the vet's favor.

And, to be fair, Zaccheaus is a capable starting slot wide receiver. He runs routes well and is a great third option, all things considered.

But, Burden's electricity as a playmaker, especially after the catch, is what will eventually tip the scales.

He came into this year's draft as one of the top receivers his class for a reason, and the fact he dropped to Round 2 is still quite the mystery.

Under Johnson's leadership, we're not only going to see Caleb Williams take a big leap, but his arsenal of weapons should look better than any Bears offense in the past decade, and a big part of that could end up being Burden.

If Zaccheaus is this team's fourth option, then they really do have an abundance of talent in the wide receiver room. That won't be a bad thing, but it does seem inevitable at this point. Burden is coming.
