Last week, it was cornerback Kyler Gordon with his pregame warmup groin injury that knocked him out of the Green Bay Packers game. Now, the Chicago Bears are dealing with another last-second injury.
The Bears announced on social media that backup quarterback Tyson Bagent has been added to the injury report and is listed as questionable for the Week 15 matchup against the Cleveland Browns. Bagent is dealing with an illness that might keep him out of the game.
This season, Bagent has only appeared in three games, completing three of four passes for 47 yards while also rushing for seven yards on two carries. Should Bagent not be able to go, Case Keenum would be the new backup for Chicago.
Bears fans shouldn't sleep on Bagent's injury
Many Bears fans might look at this news and not give it a second glance since the starter, Caleb Williams, is good to play. That might be the instinct of some, but it shouldn't be.
Bagent has been a key member of this organization for the last three years as he has been a reliable backup. Back in 2023, he proved his worth as he went 2-2 as the starter when he replaced Justin Fields with injury and played well.
Chicago rewarded him with a two-year, $10 million contract extension for his play before the season started. Bagent looked solid during the preseason, showing that he was comfortable in head coach Ben Johnson's offense.
While Keenum is more than capable of handling the backup role, Bagent fits better in that role. Bagent is similar to Williams in style of play, as they both are athletic and can make throws while scrambling.

It's more critical than ever for the Bears' offensive line to protect Williams and ensure he doesn't get hurt, as they can't afford to lose him after the Bagent news.
