NFL Mock Draft 2016 First Round 1.0
12th overall- Sheldon Rankins- DT/DE- Louisville- New Orleans Saints
This may just very well end up being the best value pick of this entire first round once the smoke clears. Sheldon Rankins had an Aaron Donald-esque Senior bowl week which I hold in high regard when it comes to my personal evaluation of a prospect. I expect this holds true with most NFL evaluators as well. However there are questions about his size, and where that places him position wise at the next level. Noted media scout and draft guru Matt Miller of bleacher report had this to say about Rankins.
“Sheldon Rankins is a beast on the Louisville defensive line, but at 6’1″ and 303 pounds, there are questions about where he’ll play in the NFL. I like him as a Mike Daniels-style 5-technique, but he has the skill set to line up in any gap the defense wants him in. He’s flying up my board each time I see him play and currently has a second-round grade.”
Keep in mind this was back in December so that second round grade has long since been old news. He’s a top 15 pick and proves that by being the 12th overall pick of the Saints.
