Chicago Bears Hope Jonathan Bullard Can Develop Into Their Malik Jackson
In this next set of stills Malik Jackson runs a stunt out of a 2-4-5 formation with his RDT. Bronco’s have the left side of the defense overloaded with personnel.
In the next set of stills Jackson loops around the RDT and RDT slants into the center as the LG engages him forcing a double team there. Meanwhile the WILB blitzes the area vacated by Jackson while the LOLB simply rushes up-field off the edge where the TE chips him as the RT slides out to defend the LOLB once the TE releases into a route where the safety picks him up. The MILB draws the mismatch block from the HB and the WILB loops behind the MILB unabated to the quarterback.
The end result is an incompletion on 3rd down and a turnover on downs. You can see this designed stunt absolutely left the offensive line dumbfounded and the MILB beat his mismatch to make this play successful. Also in a great play of complimentary football the coverage did it’s job leaving Joe Flacco with no outlet to check down to. You can also see the RT is completely taken out of the play leaving only 4 linemen blocking and an over-matched HB in this extremely effective stunt. It’s a bit more complex than the Florida one prior and Bullard’s role was different as he was the screener, but this shows how the Bears will use Jackson in a two man game with another DT. This is a stunt that can be easily executed with Bullard and one of the more athletic and quick DT’s like Will Sutton, Akiem Hicks and perhaps Eddie Goldman as well.
