Round 7, Pick No. 220

You can never go wrong with a Notre Dame offensive lineman prospect in a draft. Notre Dame is considered O-Line University as the continually churn out top-tier offensive linemen like Zach Martin and Quenton Nelson. The Bears additionally have two undrafted free agents from Notre Dame who both have done solid work for the Bears’ offensive line.

Robert Hainsey isn’t the star you’d get in Liam Eichenberg in the first two rounds, but Hainsey comes from Notre Dame and they know how to make good offensive linemen. Hainsey currently is the starting right tackle for Notre Dame, but his size makes him likely an offensive guard.

He is a part of the top offensive line unit in the country right now in Notre Dame according to Pro Football Focus and he and fellow offensive tackle Eichenberg are a major part of that. Hainsey is a big and powerful lineman that mauls the opposing defenders in the run game and shuts down pass rushers in the passing game.

Hainsey might need some work before taking over as an offensive guard for the Bears, but that is fine. The Bears can be more than serviceable on their interior offensive line with James Daniels coming back and the emergence of both Sam Mustipher and Alex Bars.

Final Thoughts

It is crucial the Bears correct their offense immediately. Whoever the general manager is next year needs to do what Pace continually ignored and go offensive-heavy this NFL draft. If they do this, they can contend in just one season.
