The Chicago Bears sixth-round picks

Round 6 Ι Pick No. 197 Ι Ali Gaye, EDGE, LSU

The Bears need better edge depth with Barkevious Mingo potentially not returning. Ali Gaye is a great run-stopping edge rusher which the Bears need major help with. He isn’t outstanding at rushing the passer, but he is great at shedding run blocks and stopping the run. Gaye would be an immediate contributor.

Round 6 Ι Pick No. 215 Ι Austin Watkins, WR, UAB

A small school wide receiver who wins nearly every jump-ball thrown his way, Austin Watkins would be the perfect replacement for Javon Wims who should not return next season due to on-the-field issues both catching the ball and trying to box. Watkins is a great deep threat as well. Struggled this season, but eclipsed 1,000 yards last season.

Round 6 Ι Pick No. 220 Ι Tariq Castro-Fields, CB, Penn State

A big and physical corner, Tariq Castro-Fields can be a great guy to compete as a backup for the Bears outside cornerback position. Although this doesn’t seem like an immediate need, Jaylon Johnson’s shoulders are a concern with four surgeries (two on each shoulder). They need depth at this position badly. He’s a tackling machine as well.

Next. Bears' owner George McCaskey must make these decisions. dark

Final Thoughts:

The Bears can easily retool their team this offseason with a draft like this. They free up space by adding two new offensive tackles, which makes both Leno and Massie expendable. They get their QB in Lance who can learn behind Foles (if he even needs to sit) and the Bears with a retooled offense can hopefully have a solid season next year.
