Caleb Johnson

Caleb Johnson has been the talk of the preseason. He has been everywhere, making tackles, creating pressure, dropping into coverage and recovering fumbles. He has not necessarily been the human highlight reel, but he has been someone who has been near the football all of the time.

His issue is going to be the depth at linebacker. Danny Trevathan, and Roquan Smith are starters while Alec Ogletree and Christian Jones both signed as vets this offseason. Both have taken second team reps and neither has given any reason as to why they would not be the third and fourth LB on the Chicago Bears.

The Bears could keep five linebackers, but even then Josh Woods and Joel Iyiegbuniwe lurk as competition. Johnson is closer to those two than he is Ogletree and Jones. The reality is that his impact plays got him to the practice squad.
