Ryan Poles finally drafts a body for the defensive line

With their second-to-last pick in the draft, the Bears go defensive line with Clemson’s Tyler Davis. Over the past five or six years, Clemson has produced tons of NFL talent across the defensive line, and Davis could become the next guy in that conversation — although he’s nowhere near the prospect that guys like Vic Beasley or Clelin Ferrell were.

The 6-foot-2, 300-pound Davis has a lot of raw physical talent to like. He possesses a strong, muscular frame and is an explosive guy off the line. As a defensive tackle, it’s rare to find someone with the mixture of strength and fast-twitch ability, but Davis has it.

However, he’ll have to refine his technique a bit if he’s to compete with NFL talent. He’s not always the lowest man and his hands could use a bit of tweaking as well.

But, the Bears may need some depth here depending on what they decide to do with their other guys up front. Will they cut Eddie Goldman? Do they bring Akiem Hicks back? Those are some big questions they have to answer.
