Chicago Bears Target No.1: Devonte Wyatt, DT – Georgia

If the Bears make some quality signings at wide receiver and cornerback in free agency, the door opens for them to go defensive tackle in the second round. This is where a prospect like Devonte Wyatt would be a nice fit.

Wyatt wasn’t the most productive player in college, but that’s what happens when you are part of one of the greatest front sevens in college football history. The truth is Wyatt’s impact on the defense went well beyond his individual stats. His ability to eat up space on the inside helped open up opportunities for blisters and edge rushers.

Wyatt’s first step is as explosive as it gets for someone listed at 315 pounds. His speed and agility at that size made it nearly impossible for guards to stay in front of him in college. These rare movement skills also give Wyatt a larger margin for error, as he has the agility to readjust if he takes a bad angle to the ball carrier.

As great of a prospect as Wyatt is, it’s rather unlikely defensive tackle is considered the Bears’ biggest need come April. Still, there will be several teams that have first-round grades on him, and he would make a great value the Bears can snag him on day two.
