The Chicago Bears should risk signing free agent safety Kareem Jackson

The safety position has not been talked about as much as it could have early on this offseason, but the Bears desperately need to find a running mate for Eddie Jackson. Frankly, they need to figure out what to do with Jackson altogether, but that’s a story for another day.

The last few years have seen the Bears use veterans like Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Tashaun Gipson in the place of departed veteran Adrian Amos, and that position simply hasn’t been the same. Clinton-Dix and Gipson were fine, but not earth-shattering. They certainly had their bad moments.

One option the Bears could have is bringing in 33-year-old veteran Kareem Jackson to compete for a spot next to “the other” Jackson.

In the past, Jackson has proved he has the ball skills and reactionary tools necessary to play in a scheme like the Bears will be running. He has five seasons in which he’s come up with at least 10 passes defensed.

Although he’s never made a Pro Bowl, Jackson has always been an above-average player. Yes, this feels just like what the Bears have done over the last few seasons, here. But, they need a starter, and it doesn’t feel like they’d use top draft capital to find one.
