We are counting down the days until the start of training camp and we also counting down the Chicago Bears roster from 90 to one. This is looking at how impactful each player has the potential to be on the 2022 roster.

We started all the way back at 90 and have moved up to 68.

Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 68 Dieter Eiselen

2021 ranking: 60

2020 ranking: 63

Dieter Eisenlen started off as a UDFA from Yale in 2020. Still, we had high hopes for him before training camp and wrote that he may be one of the UDFAs who is able to stick around on the practice squad. Perhaps the Bears’ depth on the offensive line at that point had something to do with it.

Either way, he stuck around on the practice squad as we expected and in 2021 we saw a small bump up to number 60 as he was inching higher, but was not quite on the roster yet. That came to fruition as well.

Now, he bumps down for a couple of main reasons. The first, and obvious is that Ryan Pace drafted Eiselen and was invested in him, but Ryan Poles has not. He can much more eager to move on.

That leads to the second idea and that being that Poles spent all of day three drafting players that he plans to see on the roster ahead of Eiselen. It would be hard to put him above Braxton Jones, Zach Thomas, Doug Kramer, or Ja’Tyre Carter when those were Poles draft picks, and Eiselen is just a player with two years of practice squad experience.

Being 68th still puts him right in the mix to make the roster, or the practice squad once again with a strong training camp. Still, with Pace he started at 63 and eased up to number 60, and now he saw a few things go against him this offseason, leading him to 68. It is more roster dynamics than a change in his talent.
