As we get closer to the start of the Chicago Bears season we are counting down to the top players on the roster. We are going from 90 to 1, looking into which players can impact the 2022 roster most significantly. With that in mind, we are onto number 58.

Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 58 Patrick Scales

2021 Ranking: 63

2020 Ranking: 71

The long snapper joins the third-string quarterback as some of the hardest players to rank. Patrick Scales has been on the Chicago Bears since 2015, and most fans would not even know who he is. That is because when you are a long snapper, the less you are known, the better you are.

If every extra point and punt is smooth, no one is talking about it, but if the long snapper is messing up, you can believe that Bears fans know his name.

With that in mind, it is hard to say much negative about Scales, who has lasted the entire Ryan Pace era. Still, with Ryan Poles is charge now, there is a chance that Poles wants to start the new era with his own people.

While it is not a significant signing, Patrick Scales likely had his ears perk up when he saw that the team added Antonio Ortiz after the rookie tryout sessions. We already ranked Ortiz, and it is hard to say that Scales will lose his job, but there will be a competition this year for the long-standing veteran.

Every once and a while there will be a depth-long snapper into competing with Scales, and he has made it so far, so we give him the edge. Still, this is the first time he will have to deal with someone that a new General Manager signed.

If Scales makes the 53-man roster he would be ranked 53rd. With the competition coming we have him down to number 58.
