The Chicago Bears are not the league’s worst team
The optimism about the Bears’ chances of competing this year have been low…like, really low. Even some of the most optimistic fans have marked their calendars to reflect that 2023 will be Chicago’s first real opportunity to make noise in the standings.
While Chicago might not find themselves in the playoffs this season, the notion that they are the league’s worst team (which is not an unpopular opinion in the media circuit) is downright absurd. They are going through a rebuilding period and are certainly on a lower tier than most teams, but they still have much more talent than they are given credit for.
Their lack of big-name players contributes to the national consensus that the team is scraping the bottom of the barrel. In actuality, it isn’t hard to see they are only a few pieces away from becoming a threat, especially with the culture that the new regime is trying to build.

Finally, the presence of Justin Fields is another factor those who believe the Bears are one of the league’s worst teams are neglecting to recognize. If he reaches his potential and becomes the franchise signal-caller the team has been searching for, then there is nothing stopping Chicago from becoming a bonafide contender.
