It was a dominating performance from the Chicago Bears in their 34-10 blowout win over the Cleveland Browns in the preseason opener.
There really wasn't much to look at or be negative about with this Bears team. After a slow start to the first half, they put their foot on the pedal and took care of business with 24 second-half points on offense.
Now, after the game, it is becoming clearer who will make the team and who might be in danger of missing the 53-man roster. Here's a look at the statuses of nine Bears players after the first preseason game.
Chicago Bears who locked up roster spots and those who still have work to do after preseason opener
Won roster spot: Jamree Kromah, EDGE
Some might argue that Kromah was the best player on the field for the Bears after his defensive dominance. Some might argue. He finished with six tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. That is a stat line that is more than worthy of getting onto a 53-man roster with ease, especially after the pass-rushing problems the Bears had last season.
Won roster spot: Ruben Hyppolite II, LB
Hyppolite was a bit of a disappointment in his rookie season, so he needed a good game to get back on the coaching staff's good side. He finished the preseason contest with a game-high seven tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass deflection. It's easy to say that Hyppolite got himself a roster spot with that performance.
Won roster spot: Roschon Johnson, RB
Johnson was on the hot seat through the first three weeks of training camp after Salvon Ahmed got praised for his performance. Things took a turn in Johnson's favor after getting eight carries for 34 yards, averaging 4.3 yards per carry, and also a reception for three yards. He had a good enough game that Bears fans could be happy with him as the RB3 and use him in short-yardage situations if something happened to Kyle Monangai.
Won roster spot: Kaden Davis, WR
One of the game's standout performances went to the guy who caught everyone by surprise in training camp. Davis finished with four receptions for 88 yards, including a 41-yard reception. He even showed off some return abilities with a 23-yard punt return. It's still going to be a tough call at wide receiver, but Davis made the argument that the Bears must create a sixth wide receiver opening on the roster to get him on the team somehow.
Won roster spot: Beanie Bishop Jr., S
Chicago's secondary is a revolving door after multiple injuries, but Bishop may have made it easy to keep him on the roster. He has two tackles, three pass deflections, and two interceptions in the victory. Bishop looks like a depth player for the 2026 season.
On roster bubble: Jedrick Wills Jr., OT
Wills almost got Bagent destroyed on the field with the sack he allowed right before the two-minute warning in the second quarter. He would get beaten off the line again on the next play. Wills got himself out of the conversation for the left tackle job, but now he might even be in the conversation to lose his job altogether.
On roster bubble: Scotty Miller, WR
Miller looked good in the preseason game, just to be clear, catching three passes for 37 yards. The problem is that the wide receiver has so much talent that there is simply not enough room for him. Right now, Miller is using Bears training camp to try to convince another NFL team to sign him because Davis and Maurice Alexander would make the 53-man roster before Miller would.
On roster bubble: Qadir Ismail, TE
The tight end position is already too crowded with Colston Loveland, Cole Kmet, and Sam Roush as locks to make it. Ismail did have a reception for eight yards, but he needs more than that if he wants to make the team. He looks like a good tight end, but the chances of him making the roster are pretty slim.

On roster bubble: Miller Moss, QB
It's unfortunate to put Moss on this list, but Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum just outplayed him, which they should have, since they are veterans and he is an undrafted rookie. Moss still didn't do too badly in the game, though, completing three of eight passes for 48 yards. He might work his way into a practice squad spot, but there isn't much hope for him to make the 53-man roster at this point.
