The Chicago Bears' defense has certainly gone through their issues early in the 2025 season.
Starting with the number of injuries the team has dealt with. Linebacker T.J. Edwards is missing one game, Kyler Gordon is missing both games, and Jaylon Johnson is missing one game but is reaggravating his groin injury, which could keep him out for the season.
Chicago can't afford to have anymore issues lingering on defense with the number of problems piling up. There might be one other concern no one has talked about yet that could grow into something much, much worse.
Tyrique Stevenson has not been great through two games for the Bears
With Johnson's injury, the Bears will turn to Tyrique Stevenson to be the new CB1 on the team. If the last two games are any indication, he has not been ready for the task at hand.
Pro Football Focus did not have good grades for the cornerback, who is currently ranked 118th out of 141 cornerbacks in the NFL in overall grade with 44.7. His run defense grade is awful with 30.4 (ranking 130th), while his pass defense isn't much better at 49.4 (ranking 103rd).
The panel at CHSN discussed this on their show on Thursday as they brought up that Stevenson has the worst passer rating when targeted at 158.3. They answered the burning question as to whether they trust him to go up against the Dallas Cowboys' wide receivers, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, in their Week 3 showdown on Sunday.
"You know, it's interesting," Gabe Ramirez started. "Dennis Allen plays a lot of man defense. That we do know for sure. Can't do that against CeeDee Lamb, you got to go Cover 2. You gotta put a safety over the top top help him. You gotta do whatever you can to get some extra bodies there, but let's not forget George Pickens is there as well. A serviceable wide receiver that can get the job done on the other side, so Nahshon Wright is going to have his hands full on the other side as well. So, it'll be a tough day because CeeDee Lamb is definitely one of the top 3-5 receivers in the NFL right now."
"I think you gotta do as much as you can if you are Dennis Allen to limit the damage with Tyrique Stevenson," David Haugh said. "He has another game like he had against the Lions, you're dealing with a damaged psycie and as mcuh confidence as he has and as much as the cornerback position has, I don't think you want to go a third game with Tyrique Stevenson is not doing the job. So, you got to be very careful before you loss the player."
Tyrique Stevenson is off to a rough start.

It wouldn't be an overboard statement to say that Week 3 is critical for Stevenson to have the best game of his career. He has to show Allen that he can get the job done. Another bad game could force the Bears to make a move at cornerback via trade or free agency.
