There was a lot that went right for the Chicago Bears in their 34-10 blowout win over the Cleveland Browns in the preseason opener.
The Bears' offense shined bright with over 400 yards and 24 points scored in the second half. The unit overall dominated all around.
Not everything went smoothly on offense, though, as one position battle was supposed to be figured out after the game. Well, from the sound of things, no one did themselves any favors at left tackle.
Bears' left tackle position battle rages on without a clear winner
Throughout training camp, Braxton Jones, Jedrick Wills Jr., and Kiran Amegadjie have been battling at left tackle. The Bears are looking for someone to potentially start the season at left tackle, with Ozzy Trapilo working his way back from his knee injury.
Jones appeared to lead early in training camp, but he got hurt and missed the last week of practice until Sunday, when he returned. That left Amegadjie and Wills to battle it out during the Bears-Browns preseason game.
Amegadjie and Wills did little to help themselves. Wills had a bad moment when he allowed a violent sack on Tyson Bagent. Other than that, neither guy had any noteworthy plays in the game.
Before their practice the day after the preseason game, Bears offensive coordinator Press Taylor was asked about the left tackle battle based on what they saw. Taylor was honest that it didn't do much to help their decision.
“It wasn’t as clean as we’d love it to be going forward. And that’s kind of why there still continues to be an open competition for the position," Taylor said.
The good news is that Jones is back, and Trapilo was activated from the PUP and practiced as well. Trapilo's timetable to return to the field is in question, though.
Based on everything that has happened in training camp through the first three weeks, Jones might be the man who will start until Trapilo is healthy. If Trapilo is good to go for Week 1, there is no question he will start.
Maybe the bigger question is what the Bears will do about Amegadjie and Wills. Not only are these guys fighting for a starting job, but they're also fighting to stay on the roster in general. Both guys might lose the position battle and could also be out of a job.

There are still two weeks of training camp to get things figured out, but for the time being, there is confusion about what is going on at left tackle. It needs to get figured out quickly, though, since this is the most important position on offense besides the quarterback.
