Chicago Bears fans are still beaming over the incredible trade for Jeffery Simmons, which has set them up for a potential Super Bowl run, but the team isn't done making moves.

The Bears still have major roster concerns they hope to address over the next two weeks before the trade deadline. Cornerback and edge rusher have been Chicago's two biggest needs.

The Bears and the Los Angeles Chargers have been talking about a potential Khalil Mack trade. Another reunion might be on the table to help the cornerback: Nahshon Wright.

Nahshon Wright trade for Bears feels more possible after his recent comments

Wright had one of the most memorable seasons for the Bears' defense in years last year. He led the NFL in turnovers with 10, including five interceptions, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. The NFL selected him to his first career Pro Bowl season for his play.

That helped land him a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the New York Jets after the Bears passed on paying him. Wright hasn't made the impact he had hoped for, as he's played only three games. He has produced just one tackle for the Jets this season.

This has led to tension between Wright and the Jets that seems to be boiling over publicly this week. ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini shared what Wright said about his time in New York after missing time at the plate.

"CB Nahshon Wright tells ESPN that he's 'definitely frustrated' by having no role on defense. Asked if he has requested a trade, he said, 'Not formally...(But) I've expressed my feelings (to the team).'"

A breakup seems imminent between Wright and the Jets. That became clearer when Bears Wire's Brendan Sugrue reported that Wright wants to return to Chicago. The writing seems to be on the wall.

How Nahshon Wright could help Bears out the rest of the 2026 season

The obvious problem is the Bears' cornerback situation: Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson are both having the worst seasons of their careers. Johnson and Stevenson have allowed passer ratings over 110 and nearly 15 yards per reception each.

The only bright spot among the outside cornerbacks is rookie fourth-round pick Malik Muhammad, who has played well. Muhammad has been the only consistent corner who has played well in coverage all season.

Wright may not be the replacement starter Bears fans hoped for, but he adds depth and could potentially jump into the lineup. He would at least push Stevenson and Johnson to play better as a rotational player.

One good thing about a Wright trade, though, is that it would come at a low cost. The Bears would only need to give up a late Day 3 pick to make it done, so this feels like a low-risk, no-brainer trade for Chicago.

For the 2026 season, Wright would at least be a band-aid for the secondary until the Bears fully address it in the offseason. Chicago needs to consider this move if it wants to stay in the Super Bowl conversation.
