This Chicago Bears coaching search is now being chalked up as one giant circus by some. After all, Ryan Poles and Kevin Warren are not just taking their sweet time, but are interested in just about any and every coaching candidate in existence.
If the team ends up hiring the right coach in the end, then this entire sentiment and narrative will be put to bed. But, for right now, fans are a little flustered with how this has gone.
And, in the latest strand of news from the Bears' coaching search came not only the confirmed interview for Mike McCarthy, but the utter disrespect of someone already inside Halas Hall.
On the most recent episode of the Hoge and Jahns podcast, two fan favorite Bears reporters, Adam Hoge and Adam Jahns, discussed the process that ensued with current interim head coach Thomas Brown and his interview for the permanent job.
Apparently, the Bears only gave Brown a virtual interview.
For the record, even Ron Rivera was given the privilege and respect of an in-person interview.
The Bears disrespected the one man who deserved much more from them
Let's get this straight. We are talking about the first Bears coach to defeat the Green Bay Packers in six years. This is the guy who has been in the building all year long, is still under contract with the team and thus has probably not cleaned out his office, completely.
This is the man who has worked with your rookie first-round quarterback, Caleb Williams, for the past several months and has spent more time with the team's franchise player than just about anyone else over the course of the season.
And yet, the Bears still chose to give him a virtual interview? Poles and Warren couldn't have taken the time to bring him into his own building for an in-person interview?
More Bears news:
This should come as no surprise, sadly. The Bears also failed to have the same level of decency with Mike Vrabel who is now the head coach of the New England Patriots. Vrabel was reportedly a top candidate for the Bears' job, but Chicago never brought him in for an in-person interview, either.
Look, whether or not Brown is a serious candidate for the job, the man still deserves the respect of an in-person interview from his current superiors. If Poles and Warren were serious about giving him an opportunity, why on earth would he not be invited into Halas Hall for a formal meeting in person?
This is just one more hilarious example of incompetence. It is yet one more piece of evidence that the Bears do not know how to run things properly and why the organization has been behind the 8-ball for years now.
There's a reason other organizations, fans and media laugh at the Bears. In fact, there are several reasons. This is just one more added to the list.
They can't even go through a standard interview process in correct fashion.
Stop me if you've heard this before. It's the same, old Bears, just a new year.
