With the Chicago Bears beginning OTAs this week, the team had a perfect opportunity to close the loop on the news cycle stemming from the bombshell Caleb Williams' revelations shared by ESPN's Seth Wickersham last week.

By now, you know the details. Williams and his father had doubts that the Bears were the right team for the quarterback's development, briefly thought about "nuking" the Bears and Chicago, wanted to play for the Minnesota Vikings, but ultimately, the Bears were able to convince the young quarterback of the fit.

The Bears are probably thinking that since Williams is, in fact, still the quarterback of the team, and Ben Johnson has been hired to get his development back on track, all is well that ends well. Especially after Johnson went out of his way to address the controversy on Wednesday.

The fact Johnson went out of his way to address the controversy certainly speaks to a level of awareness the Bears did not have with their former head coach. However, the Bears did take a loss this week when Williams was not among the players who spoke with reporters on Wednesday.

With Williams not speaking with reporters, this story will continue to live on until it's addressed by the quarterback. And, for those who say Williams shouldn't, look no further than the criticism he took from NFL analyst, Ross Tucker, on Friday.

"I have major concerns about Caleb Williams. It feels to me like more often than not, he does the wrong thing. This isn't a talent thing ... I feel like he either gets really bad advice or his awareness rating on Madden needs to go down like 30 points," Tucker told The Mully and Haugh Show on Friday.

Caleb Williams could have ended the nonsense

And there lies the problem with Williams not addressing this head-on this week. The cycle could have been closed, and fans would move on to hyping up slo-mo highlights shared to social media. Instead, the hot takes over Williams are only just going to continue to boil up.
