After being one of the feel good stories of the Chicago Bears' training camp, the organization had to make the tough choice of letting him go. For now.
Chicago Tribune Bears reporter Brad Biggs shared on social media that undrafted rookie wide receiver JP Richardson was informed that he would be waived from the team. It is believed that Richardson will have a good chance of making the practice squad if he clears waivers.
#Bears will place WR J.P. Richardson, an undrafted rookie from TCU, on waivers. He flashed during the first few weeks of training camp. A strong candidate to be re-signed to the practice squad.

Richardson made a lot of noise in training camp at the beginning, but was average at best during the preseason games. He caught four passes for 28 yards and returned two punts for 31 yards, including a 22-yarder in two preseason matchups.
Richardson showed promise in training camp that Chicago could develop
The undersized receiver would make for a perfect slot receiver on offense and proved to be valuable in the return game. Richardson has all the capabilities of being a WR3 in the future, but needs more time to develop.
Chicago had a great problem with the roster with wide receiver being one of the deepest positions on the team. The emergence of Jahdae Walker and his two stellar fourth quarter touchdown catches in the preseason separated himself from the rest of the competition.
Richardson was ultimately overshadowed in the wide receiver room by other good talents in there. Guys like Tyler Scott, Maurice Alexander, and Samori Toure had better preseasons than Richardson did.
The separation between them all and Richardson, though, is special teams. Alexander had some work on kickoff, but Richardson had good success with the punt returns, which is a significant advantage, especially with field position being an important part of the game.

There will be more tough decisions being made in Chicago, but Richardson proved that he should at least be on the practice squad. Bears fans have to hope nobody signs him while he's on waivers.
