Chicago Bears fans were stunned the moment that Declan Doyle left the team to take the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator job, but head coach Ben Johnson has found his replacement.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Johnson is promoting passing game coordinator Press Taylor to be the next offensive coordinator. Taylor played a big role in Bears quarterback Caleb Williams performing well in his first season with the team. He was considered a leading candidate for the offensive coordinator job after just two reported interviews happening.

Coming with Taylor's promotion is a coach with three years of experience as an offensive coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars, whose unit finished in the top 15 in points and yards in his first two seasons in the role, 2022 and 2023. Taylor hit a rough patch in his final season with the team as they were 25th in yards and 26th in points, leading to him not being brought back.

Bears promote Press Taylor as offensive coordinator

Johnson had previously interviewed two candidates who lacked NFL-level offensive coordinator experience. Taylor always seemed like the most logical move for the Bears.

The great thing with Taylor is that he's already in the building, he knows the kind of offense that Johnson wants, and Williams is comfortable with him. All that will make it a seamless transition and one that won't disrupt the Bears' success on offense.

Chicago's offense ranked sixth in yards and ninth in points. The passing game ranked 10th in yards and 10th in touchdowns, and it also featured the fewest interceptions of the season, as Williams threw only seven.

This is a win-win situation for the Bears as they get an experienced coordinator in there while having someone who can jump in right now with no interruptions. The Bears got this call right for offensive coordinator, and one that will help them in 2026.
