There wasn't much to criticize after the Chicago Bears won in dominant fashion over the Buffalo Bills in their second preseason matchup of the year. The offense was clicking. Caleb Williams looked every bit of what fans have longed for.
The defense put on a show and shut out the Bills as well, but that side of the ball also suffered a notable loss during the game. Cornerback Terell Smith went down with an apparent ankle injury at one point, and he had to be carted off.
Following the game, head coach Ben Johnson did not seem too positive when speaking on Smith's injury.
Johnson called Smith's injury “the most serious of the bunch," when referring to the other players who were banged up. "It didn't look good," he said.
The Bears might be without cornerback Terell Smith for a long time
While we don't know the severity of the injury just yet, simply drawing conclusions from Johnson's time with the media was enough to know that this probably won't be a minor injury. The third-year pro was an integral part of this Bears defensive depth.
Although he wasn't necessarily in line to start alongside Jaylon Johnson, Smith would very likely be one of the first men up should an injury occur. Chicago has done a nice job building outside corner depth between Smith, rookie Zah Frazier and veteran Nahshon Wright to go with Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson.
If Smith misses a lot of time, that puts even more of a spotlight on a guy like Wright, who has impressed throughout training camp and was even working with the starters at one point. The former Minnesota Vikings castoff has found a home in Chicago and could play a pivotal role for the Bears this year.

For Smith, this is just another injury to add to the list. When he's healthy, he's a good player and a valuable depth piece. But, injuries have been a nagging issue. While he hasn't missed large chunks of a season just yet, they've played a part.
