Caleb Williams admits what Bears fans already knew about Week 1 meltdown

It all started with so much hope after Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams tore apart the Minnesota Vikings' defense on the opening offensive drive for a nine-yard scramble for a touchdown. Little did Bears fans know it would go awfully wrong down the stretch.

After holding a 17-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter, the wheels fell off for the Bears as the Vikings ended up winning 27-24. Williams finished the game completing 21 of 35 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown, while adding 58 rushing yards and another score.

There are numerous elements to a game that can lead to a loss like that, and most are understandable. The explanation that Williams gave, though, is going to raise some eyebrows in the worst way.

Bears fans won't feel great about why they lost

After the game, Williams spoke with the media about the loss. ESPN Chicago host Peggy Kusinski shared what he had to say, mentioning that "everybody’s focus kind of went away" and "we got to finish games."

This is an excuse that might have worked back in the Matt Eberflus era, but Bears fans can't feel great about that response. Losing focus is a mental mistake from the team that can't happen at any point of the game.

There's a chance that Williams might have said that out of context and maybe he meant it in another way, but let's face it: it's a bad quote. It's the last thing Bears fans want to read after seeing their team taking a tough loss at home.

The stats back up the focus not being there, though, as the team had a horrendous 12 penalties for 127 yards. They also only converted three of their 12 third downs. Their first five offensive drives in the second half were 66 total yards,

It's clear to everyone that the focus was not there. The Bears better fix it with the team on a short week.
