Caleb Williams didn't take the Matt Eberflus bait after Bears beat Cowboys

The Chicago Bears got a win against Matt Eberflus and the Dallas Cowboys, so of course players were asked about that storyline.

The Chicago Bears have officially added a tally to the win column, and it just happened to come against the Dallas Cowboys. The reason that’s noteworthy is because Chicago’s former head coach, Matt Eberflus, is the current defensive coordinator for the Cowboys. Unfortunately for him, his return to Chicago didn’t go well for Dallas.

The Bears offense looked like the unit many imagined it would be once Ben Johnson took over the promising group led by Caleb Williams. Posting 385 yards and 31 points, it was the kind of outing Chicago is hoping becomes commonplace. Naturally, Williams was asked if it felt good that the performance came against Eberflus, his former coach. The second-year quarterback didn’t feed into the drama, though, saying it didn’t matter who it was against.

This is definitely the kind of response you would want for a franchise quarterback, not feeding into any drama, but it’s also probably what Williams really feels. The young quarterback and the Bears have moved on to a new era, and they’re trying to get things figured out under Ben Johnson. Williams definitely wants the offense to perform how it did against the Cowboys, against anybody.

That all starts with the young quarterback doing his job, and on Sunday, he did a good job executing. Williams completed 19-of-28 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns. He didn’t have any turnovers, and even bigger than that, Williams wasn’t sacked at all. That makes Sunday’s win the first game in his career where he wasn’t sacked.

While it coincidentally came against a coach who’s pretty familiar with Williams and the Bears, Chicago and its young quarterback is focused on making performances like the one on Sunday the standard, regardless of who’s standing on the opposing sideline.
