Every Chicago Bears fan has been waiting for quarterback Caleb Williams to have a breakout game.
Last season, Williams threw for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns to six interceptions. He did what every Bears quarterback has done in franchise history: fail to reach the 4,000-yard mark. In fact, he only had three games where he threw for over 300 yards in a game and had nine games where he was under 200 yards in a game.
This season, he's not on pace to hit 4,000 yards once again after throwing for 417 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in the first two games. If it is any consolation, he has at least passed for over 200 yards in each of those matchups.
Chicago enters a critical Week 3 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, where they must win to increase their chances of making the postseason. Williams needs it to build momentum for the season. This could be the game he finally puts it all together and gives Bears fans the quarterback they have been waiting for.
Williams could finally surprise Bears fans with a performance to remember
Last week, the Cowboys allowed New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson to throw for over 400 yards and allowed 37 points. If that isn't enough to get Bears fans excited for this game, what else would?
Williams has an advantage he can work with as well: he knows the defensive scheme for the Cowboys. Current Dallas defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus was once Williams' head coach for less than a season last year before getting fired. Williams knows the tendencies of Eberflus' defense and will be able to hit them where they hurt.
It also helps that one of the Cowboys' top corners, DaRon Bland, appears unlikely to play in the game. That helps Bears receivers DJ Moore and Rome Odunze be able to break out for some big plays in the game.
Bears fans' expectations for Williams by now are about 200 yards and maybe one or two touchdowns in a game. Williams might surprise some people with a weak pass defense, as he can put up some big numbers.

Williams' current head coach, Ben Johnson, has mentioned that Williams is improving week by week. There's no reason to believe Williams can't beat his previous career-high of 363 passing yards in one game and another throwing for four touchdowns. Those could be in the cards for the second-year quarterback.
