Well, if any Chicago Bears fan thought the backup quarterback job was still up for grabs, Tyson Bagent made sure to shut down those conversations in the team's 38-0 shutout win over the Buffalo Bills.
Bears starting quarterback Caleb Williams played the first two drives of the game before head coach Ben Johnson handed the reins to Bagent from late in the first quarter through part of the third quarter. It was an excellent performance for Bagent, who once again demonstrated a clear understanding of what Johnson wants in his offense.
Bagent finished the game, completing 13 of 22 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown. He added a nine-yard run in the win.
Late in the third quarter, Austin Reed finished the game out at quarterback. Bagent's competitor for the QB2 job, Case Keenum, did not appear in the game.
Time to lock in Bagent as the Bears' QB2
Through two preseason games, Bagent has thrown for 299 yards and two touchdowns to one interception. While Keenum had a nice performance against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1, it's pretty clear Bagent is the right man for QB2.
The biggest different between Bagent and Keenum is Bagent is more athletic and can make plays with his legs. Bears fans saw it multiple times against the Bills where Bagent was forced to run out of the pocket and was able to either throw it away or run for yardage. He had one 20-yard run where he scrambled out of the pocket that was impressive, but that play was called back on a Bears penalty.
Keenum has looked good and would make a perfect number three quarterback on the depth chart, but Bagent fits what Johnson is trying to do better. Bagent is quick with his release, and his legs can help him out.

Going into the final week of the preseason, there really shouldn't be any more conversation about whether Bagent or Keenum should be QB2. That job should be given to Bagent without argument.
