All signs indicate that Caleb Williams is growing into the leader the Chicago Bears need him to be to reach their ultimate goal. On and off the field, the star quarterback continues to take meaningful steps forward, and fans are getting a glimpse of it in real time.
Williams is doing the work behind the scenes in more ways than one. He's been deliberate and diligent in team meetings, which translated to a strong showing at Chicago's mandatory minicamp. His efforts culminated in one of what figures to be several viral practice clips.
The Bears' official X (formerly Twitter) profile shared a video of Williams uncorking a deep pass to burgeoning second-year wide receiver Luther Burden III. While many are focused on the catch, including the account admin, the toss has our attention.

Caleb Williams gives Bears fans something to talk about with electrifying minicamp highlight
One social media clip put Williams' improved footwork and accuracy on full display. His feet are light; he has a steady base before stepping into a beautiful, deep launch. Perhaps most notably, though, the 2024 No. 1 overall pick hits Burden in stride, who repaid the favor with additional yardage after the grab.
Even without pads or contact, it's evident Williams has been in the lab this offseason. There's clearly been an emphasis on his technique and throwing motion. He becomes overly reliant on innate talent to a fault at times, as Bears Nation has learned, so honing in on the basics is crucial.
A remarkable athlete with a live arm and flair for the dramatic, Williams' natural abilities will only get him and Chicago so far. He appears to have realized that his preparation and habits are just as important — if not more.
Moreover, Williams dropping the ball off for his young receiver shows greater comfort in Year 2 of head coach Ben Johnson's offense. Slowly but surely, the two most important pieces of the Bears' organization are getting on the same page, and when that happens, watch out. They've only scratched the surface of their potential together.

Hopefully, Williams' dime is a precursor for what's to come entering his third pro season, considering ball placement and inefficiency have been an Achilles' heel. He ranked 32nd out of 33 qualified passers in completion percentage (58.1) in 2025, trailing only the Minnesota Vikings' J.J. McCarthy.
