Caleb Williams might've ended the Jordan Love debate sooner than expected

Chicago Bears fans are having the time of their lives right about now. Quarterback Caleb Williams was just revealed as this year's cover for Madden.

After just two seasons, Williams gets the prestigious honor. Interesting to note, Jordan Love has been the Green Bay Packers' starter for three years.

I mean, do Packers fans really have much of a leg to stand on anymore in this "debate?"

Williams is coming off a season in which he not only defeated the Packers twice, but also did so in the playoffs.

Oh, and he happened to do it in epic fashion on both occasions.

In what's been a "fun" social media debate between fan bases, did Williams' appearance on the cover of Madden '27 put an end to it -- and a whole lot earlier than anyone would have expected?

It's hard to argue with the facts.

Caleb Williams' Madden cover is one more reason why he's already passing Jordan Love

Just look at the last six Madden cover athletes: Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, Josh Allen, Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.

What do they all have in common?

They are all a top-five player at their position at the time of making the cover.

There are many people outside Chicago who would argue that Williams is not a top-five quarterback, and I wouldn't blame them. I wouldn't even put Williams into that tier just yet.

But, would I call him a better quarterback than Jordan Love?

He certainly has a case. We could look at pure stats on an individual basis, and, for that, Love would come out on top. But what's the basis of our argument?

If we're looking at postseason, alone, Love holds a 1-3 record in the playoffs while Williams is 1-1 after his first playoff berth last year.

If we're talking about going head-to-head, Williams holds a 2-1 record against Love.

Both quarterbacks have eight career fourth-quarter comebacks, but Williams has done it in one less season.

I think we know where this is going. Williams is on a much faster pace in terms of career trajectory, and the 2026 season could see him far surpass Love, once and for all. The vibes in Chicago are far greater when it comes to the quarterback position, and that's because Williams is only going into Year 2 of Ben Johnson's offense.

Love is now entering his fourth season as a starter underneath Matt LaFleur. I think we've seen enough to know who he is. Is his ceiling much higher than it is right now? I'd argue that it isn't.

Williams, on the other hand, is just scratching the surface of his potential, and I think it is perfectly OK to say that anyone who disagrees is sadly mistaken.

The world told us how it felt about Williams by giving him the cover of Madden. To think of Love making the cover feels just plain funny. I don't think we ever see that happen.

Williams has arrived, and Love is stuck right where he's at: a good quarterback but will never be great.
