“Caleb Williams is not a good quarterback.”

That is certainly a take from FOX NFL analyst Mark Schlereth that not many Chicago Bears fans would have expected to hear about their franchise quarterback. Schlereth acknowledged that Williams is a dynamic athlete but does not play on schedule and went on to compare him to Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray.

This is a very different opinion than the ones that have been said about Williams in recent months, with more people saying that he's an MVP candidate and is on his way to being elite. While some people have been hesitant about naming Williams as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, what Schlereth said takes it to a whole new insane level.

An interesting note, though, is that Bears reporter Ben Devine was the one who shared the clip on X of Schlereth saying it. Williams found it and decided to repost it, showing that he is making sure to keep receipts.

Mark Schlereth goes too far with his Caleb Williams take

Look, there are aspects of Williams' game that need to improve, and no Bears fan is going to argue that. Bears quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett acknowledged that he wants Williams to do the small things more and not always play hero ball. The accuracy has to improve from the 62% completion percentage in 2024 and the 58% in 2025.

With that being said, Williams is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He is making throws that most quarterbacks dream of making in their sleep. There was a stretch of games late in the season where Williams was making insane throws on a weekly basis, like the touchdown passes to DJ Moore against the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers twice, the Cole Kmet touchdown in the Los Angeles Rams playoff game, and the fourth-down conversion to Rome Odunze in the Packers playoff game.

Williams and Murray should not be compared, as despite both being good athletes, they are not the same kind of quarterback. The arm talent is very different, as Murray is more of a scrambler, while Williams is more willing to throw the football on the run.

This feels like Schlereth is trying to be out there with an opinion to be different from the grain and get views. No one actually believes what he has to say, as the truth is Williams is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
