Chicago Bears fans still feel like they are living in the twilight zone after watching what the Green Bay Packers have done this offseason.
This offseason, the Packers actually let their top receiver, Romeo Doubs, walk in free agency to sign with the New England Patriots. Green Bay then followed up with two contract extensions given out to wide receivers Jayden Reed for three years, $50.25 million, and, most recently, Christian Watson for four years, $110 million.
So, to sum it up, the Packers got weaker at wide receiver with Doubs gone, and they managed to pay $160.75 million over the next four years to wide receivers who have been WR2 or WR3 at best. Bears fans have to ask: how did we get this lucky?
Packers are giving the Bears every opportunity to run this rivalry for a long time
Green Bay is praying that 2025 first-round pick Matthew Golden will end up being the great receiver they expect him to be. Well, after zero touchdowns in his rookie season, that's not quite the confidence booster the Packers needed.
Chicago is set up for way more success on offense than the Packers, especially at wide receiver. Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III are way more consistent and talented than Watson and Reed are. Heck, people are so low on Watson that he isn't even considered their number one pass-catching target in the Packers' offense.
At least with Odunze and Burden, they have proven to be really good talents. If it wasn't for a foot injury, Odunze would have gone for over 1,000 yards last year, and Burden came on strong late in 2025 as the explosive receiver in the Bears' offense.

The Packers can continue their very odd strategy of throwing money at average receivers while the Bears save money on having one of the best young wide receiver duos in the NFL.
