“There is a lot of interest in Maxx Crosby. Two teams specifically—nuclear hot—the Eagles and 49ers.”
No, this isn't a report from March of this year. Chicago Bears fans, pay attention. Even though this team wasn't mentioned by Sports Illustrated's Las Vegas Raiders beat reporter Hondo Carpenter, it is well-worth monitoring.
It's been a little while since the NFL world has seen Maxx Crosby in some legitimate headlines or rumors, but Bears fans might still be hoping for a miracle in the end. This recent report from Carpenter now definitely has fans of the Eagles and 49ers buzzing, that's for sure.
But, Carpenter did say, specifically, that there is "a lot" of interest in Crosby. Could that include Bears general manager Ryan Poles?
At the very least, the door for Crosby leaving Las Vegas still remains cracked open.
There's hope, albeit, just a little.
Ryan Poles would shock Bears fans if he pulled off a late trade for Maxx Crosby
As much as Bears fans would absolutely lose their minds over the team adding Crosby, and as much as he'd be exactly what the defense needs at this moment, it would be extremely shocking to see Poles go out and make this move.
The biggest reason is that Poles and this entire coaching staff have continued to speak highly of the group of pass rushers on the team, currently. The narrative that's been built is one that has this coaching staff taking responsibility for not coaching the players up to the level that's expected.
This coming season, the coaches are expecting bigger things from Montez Sweat, Austin Booker, Dayo Odeyingbo and even Shemar Turner.
But that doesn't mean the fan base has the same expectations. Of course, we're just fans. But we've seen less-than-stellar performances out of the pass rush for a few seasons in a row, now. It's what we have come to believe will happen, barring a significant move to upgrade.
The Bears recently passed on the likes of A.J. Epenesa, who ironically signed with one of the teams hot after Crosby -- the Eagles. Chicago also saw Cam Jordan recently re-sign with the New Orleans Saints, taking another option off the table.
The fact of the matter is, Poles hasn't shown a willingness to go out and make another move at the position. For better or worse, and much to the anger of this entire fan base, Poles seems to be right in line with what the coaches have been saying.
Bears fans will be looking at this very same group of pass rushers for 2026. Do not expect a major change, especially not of the Crosby caliber.
On the off chance that Poles shocks the football world, then you can put the Bears up there with the top Super Bowl contenders, immediately.

But for now, realistically, don't expect a whole lot between now and training camp.
