Yep that needs to happen.

Outside of some nice signings the first two days of free agency, things have started to slow down for the Chicago Bears during the offseason.

They did bring in guys like safety Coby Bryant and linebacker Devin Bush to the team, but outside of that, it's been mostly quiet moves here and there for the Bears. ESPN Bears reporter Courtney Cronin shared what the team's next move will be as the offseason rolls on.

"GM Ryan Poles confirmed that the team was "involved" in talks about trading for Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby but holding on to their draft capital took them out of the running. The same goes for being conscious with their spending (knowing they have several extensions on the horizon, starting with RT Darnell Wright) and not shelling out big contracts for the pass rushers who were available as free agents."

Bears could be extending Darnell Wright soon

The only logical move for the Bears at this point is to review the current roster to begin restructuring and extending contracts. There's the option to start making trades and releasing more players, but Chicago would prefer to keep the talent it has on the roster.

Wright makes a ton of sense as the first move, as he is currently in the third year of his four-year, $20 million rookie contract, which he signed after being the 10th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. He's coming off the best season of his career, where he earned second-team All-Pro honors.

The Bears will be looking at other players on the team to get restructures and extensions done. Guys like tight end Cole Kmet and running back D'Andre Swift could be good for restructures, while linebacker T.J. Edwards could be a candidate to extend just to take the pressure off the cap hit.

Chicago fans should be ready for a lot of silence from the team as they try to figure out how to create cap space with just about $1 million to work with.
