The Chicago Bears are trying to make something out of what has been a nightmare regarding cornerback Kyler Gordon.
Before training camp began, Gordon was placed on the PUP list because he is dealing with a soft-tissue injury. It's the same one that kept him out of 14 games last season.
With no timeline for when he will be back on the field, the Bears are working through some options to replace Gordon temporarily. The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs reported that the Bears rotated through guys at nickel corner, including Cam Lewis and Jaylon Jones, among others.

This is why Lewis was signed in free agency to play a role similar to the one C.J. Gardner-Johnson did last year. Lewis can play nickel and safety, which adds some versatility to his game.
Jones was expected to be more of a backup to Jaylon Johnson, but his move to nickel makes sense if he wants to play. The other outside cornerback position is in the middle of a battle between Tyrique Stevenson and rookie fourth-round pick Malik Muhammad.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson has made his feelings known, as he wants Gordon back on the field. The level of frustration with Gordon not playing is starting to get to everyone, especially when he signed his contract extension not too long ago.
If Gordon is truly not going to be ready for the start of the regular season, that might leave the Bears in a pickle. They will have to decide whether Lewis or Jones will start. Lewis has more NFL experience, but Jones has been with the Bears longer.

Something is going to have to give at nickel, as Gordon works his way back and Lewis and Jones fight for the job. Another regular season without Gordon in the lineup will force general manager Ryan Poles into a decision he doesn't want to make: cut or trade him,
