Cowboys' injury update might give Bears passing game massive advantage in Week 3

Might be an easier game for Caleb Williams.

While the Chicago Bears are going through their injuries in the secondary, they aren't the only ones.

A lot has been talked about as Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson might be out the whole 2025 season with his groin injury, and nickel Kyler Gordon's status is unknown for when he comes back after two games missed. Chicago is trying to get healthy there, but their Week 3 opponents, the Dallas Cowboys, have their own secondary concerns.

Cowboys co-owner and executive Stephen Jones went on local Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan to share that they are hopeful that cornerback DaRon Bland will be able to play against the Bears on Sunday. Bland is dealing with a knee injury, but some believe it'll be a stretch for him to play.

How Caleb Williams and Bears offense can take advantage of Bland's injury

Williams has shown some pleasant moments through two games, but has not been consistent enough. He's completed just 61.5% of his passes, but he has only one interception, which is a plus.

What has hurt the Bears' passing game through two games is the lack of explosive plays down the field. Williams has struggled to connect on those deep balls with his receivers like DJ Moore and Rome Odunze who have the potential to break loose for big plays.

If Bland is indeed out, it would be a familiar face to Chicago taking over, Reddy Steward. Bears general manager Ryan Poles might be kicking himself for not bringing back Steward, who is coming off a great game in Dallas' win over the New York Giants with a Pro Football Focus grade of 73.6.

Chicago needs to come up with more explosive plays, whether it's DJ Moore in the backfield going deep on a route or coming up with some kind of trick play. The Cowboys' secondary is banged up and the Bears need to take advantage of that.

While some Bears fans are not ready to hit the panic button quite yet, but if Williams has another subpar game against a Cowboys secondary that just allowed Russell Wilson to throw for over 400 yards, there could be big problems in the Windy City.
