While there are going to be plenty of position battles at training camp, the one underrated one that Chicago Bears fans should monitor closely is what is going on at running back.

Yes, the top two spots should be obvious for who will make the team and be on top of the depth chart, but it is a crapshoot at the bottom. There are essentially four running backs battling for one or two spots on the 53-man roster.

This is one position battle that will be fun to watch. Here's a look at each running back and their chances of making the roster in 2026.

Odds of Bears running backs making 53-man roster

D'Andre Swift: 100%

Swift is a clear-cut starter on the Bears after having a career-season last year with 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns. That performance earned him another year in Chicago as he continues to prove that he can be a starter in the NFL. The quick and elusive back is a good fit for Bears head coach Ben Johnson's offense, so keeping him around makes sense.

Kyle Monangai: 100%

Going into training camp last year, Monangai was not even thought of as someone who could make an impact on the roster as a seventh-round pick. Then he decided to rush for 783 yards and five touchdowns, proving that he is more than worthy to be a member of the Bears. In fact, he has solidified himself as the team's future starter once Swift is gone.

Roschon Johnson: 50%

If this were going into the 2025 season, Johnson would be 100% certain, but after his disappointing year in Chicago, he is no longer a lock to make the team. He had a whopping two carries for 17 yards all season for the Bears, as he also faced some injury issues. It still feels like the Bears could keep him on the roster, but he has a lot more work to do than in his previous three seasons.

Brittain Brown: 40%

Brown only really had one game to prove himself in the regular season last year, but he made the most of it against the Cincinnati Bengals when he rushed five times for 37 yards and a touchdown. He stuck around on the roster and proved that he can be a running back in the NFL. Johnson will be his biggest competition at RB3, and while his odds might be lower than Johnson's, he has a good shot at taking that job in training camp.

Coleman Bennett, 15%

Bennett has become a sneaky pick for everyone to think that he has a legit shot to make the 53-man roster. Being an undrafted rookie certainly puts him at a massive disadvantage. It would be unfair to put him below 5%, but with all the competition there, it is not looking great for Bennett to make the team.

Salvon Ahmed: 10%

It might be a bit surprising to give an undrafted rookie a better advantage to make the roster than a veteran, but Ahmed has an uphill battle on his hands. Ahmed hasn't played in a regular season game since 2023, and when there are long stretches of time to play in a regular season game, that's not good. Again, it's unfair to put him at 0%, but there is plenty of reason to doubt that he actually makes the roster, maybe the practice squad at best.
