What better way to distract us from the Chicago Bears' ugly Week 5 loss than to talk about what once was?

We won't even name the team name who beat the Bears on Sunday. They don't deserve to be named.

Bitter? You bet I am.

Anyways, I digress.

As we've done here, often, this season, let's check in on some former Bears players who now have new homes and, well, you could say things aren't going as well as they could be and for different reasons.

David Montgomery's season goes from bad to worse after groin injury

To say this season has been a complete and utter disaster for David Montgomery would be an understatement. Through five-ish games, Montgomery has only rushed for 138 yards on 52 carries. For those who don't want to do the quick math, that's a measly 2.7 yards per carry.

Not only has Montgomery had to deal with one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL, he's also seen some meaningful touches taken away by Woody Marks.

And then, when the Texans finally go out and win a game in Week 5, Montgomery gets banged up with a groin injury. As of right now, Montgomery is being labeled week-to-week.

Going into Week 6, Montgomery has essentially been traded to the Texans to endure his worst season yet, with his team having won just a single game. Let's hope, for the sake of Montgomery's well-being and success, that the Marvin Harrison Jr. trade helps add a spark to the offense and allows the run game to flourish more than it has.

The Khalil Mack trade buzz is only going to keep growing for the Bears

Another week, and another loss for the Los Angeles Chargers, who now sit at 0-5 on the season. The Chargers are just basically broken. There's no other way to describe that franchise at the moment.

Meanwhile, the Bears' defense doesn't look nearly as good as the numbers showed over the first quarter of the season. If you thought the potential Mack-Bears reunion was buzzworthy a week ago, it's only going to continue growing.

For those who may not know, the 35-year-old Mack is in the middle of a one-year contract he signed to return to L.A.

The Athletic's Jonathan Jones recently highlighted a Mack-Chicago reunion as an idea that makes sense and even went so far as to say he's been told by some around the league that a fifth-round pick makes sense.

With Mack still playing at a high level, this Bears defense (and the city) would welcome him back with open arms. On the season, Mack has 3.0 sacks, 14 pressures, eight hurries and eight stops, per PFF.

Darnell Mooney, Olamide Zaccheaus, and Reddy Steward not trending positively

Let's check in on a few other names Bears fans will remember.

First up, Darnell Mooney still can't get things going in New York. The now-Giants wide receiver was actually pretty involved against the Washington Commanders this past Sunday. But, he only caught two of his seven targets for 14 yards.

On the season, the Bears' former fifth-round pick has only eight receptions (on 17 targets) for 109 yards in five games.

Over in Atlanta, Olamide Zaccheaus is in his second stint with the Falcons. Early on in the season, it seemed like he was going to be more involved than some thought, which is eerily familiar to Bears fans based on last year.

However, this past Sunday night, Zaccheaus played 21 out of 64 offensive snaps and was not even targeted.

Nothing against the former Bear, but that's how you would assume it should look.

Finally, a former Bears camp and preseason standout, Reddy Steward, has kept his career rolling with the Dallas Cowboys. However, this year has not gone that well for Steward and his defense.

Last week against Tampa Bay, Steward was in for 27 coverage snaps and allowed all five targets to be completed his way, including a touchdown.

On the season, Steward has allowed an opposing passer rating of 148.8, per PFF.
