It's time for Bears fans to have the uncomfortable Kyler Gordon conversation

Here are Chicago Bears fans in the middle of August, and no one has a single clue what in the world is going on with starting slot corner Kyler Gordon.

Last year, Gordon suffered a soft-tissue injury in training camp, and it just lingered all year. He would only play three games before being shut down for the year.

It's training camp, and Gordon has not practiced at all in OTAs or since camp started. This is leaving many Bears fans and the organization itself frustrated to the point that most people are ready to call it a day.

Bears' Kyler Gordon situation is not particularily going well right now

An interesting conversation is what is sparking the talk about Gordon from CHGO's Adam Hoge appearing on 104.3 The Score. Hoge was asked about the Gordon situation, and he ended up comparing it to a situation the franchise went through a few years ago with offensive lineman Nate Davis.

"This Kyler Gordon situation has veered into Nate Davis territory," Hoge said. "There were valid reasons why he wasn't on the field, and then it eventually just got to the point where everybody is a little fed up the guy's not out there. That's the vibe you get in the building."

The frustration within the Bears organization, particularly with head coach Ben Johnson, has been clear since last year. Johnson is getting tired of talking about Gordon's injury, with the head coach saying that Gordon needs to "get healthy."

It appears as though Gordon is starting to hear the noise regarding everyone being worried about him because he took to social media to share what he's been up to. Gordon posted a photo on Instagram of himself working out and rehabbing.

It's a shame that the conversation has gotten this far because when Gordon is on the field, he's a top-10 nickel corner in the NFL. He's been a great starter for the Bears over the years, but when is it time to pull the plug and move on?

In football, a player's best ability is availability. Right now, Gordon has not been that for the past year.

At some point, the Bears are going to have to have a conversation about whether it's time to move, trade, or cut him. They gave him a three-year, $40 million contract extension last offseason, and he hasn't earned a dime of it so far.

If training camp shows that either Cam Lewis or rookie Malik Muhammad could actually do the job just as well, if not better, than Gordon, that noise will only get louder. Let's face it: the Bears might be happier to see Lewis, Muhammad, or someone else step up at nickel and take the job away from Gordon.

Gordon still has about four weeks to get back to being healthy and practicing again, which will really shut down the conversation. Until then, the Bears fan base needs to start thinking about the future without Gordon.
