A collective sigh of relief is flowing through Chicago as Bears fan finally get the training camp news that they have been wanting to hear.
ESPN Bears beat reporter Courtney Cronin shared an update on day four of Bears training camp as the offense received praise for having their best day of practice so far. Cronin went into detail about their two-minute drill as quarterback Caleb Williams drove right down the field in 1:08 and threw a fade route to receiver Rome Odunze for the touchdown. Odunze discussed the play after practice and talked about how they were able to finish the drive with the score.
"You don't want to release too quick. You don't want to get to the spot too often," Odunze said. "You kind of want to meet the ball exactly at the point where you want to catch it and have late hands with it. So it's all of that. Not giving the DB any sort of tips that I may be doing a fade."
Outside of one delay of game penalty on the drive, the Bears' offense was nearly flawless. Williams ended up completing all his passes on the drive to give fans the most encouraging news to date.
Bears' offense is slowing getting better and better
All signs point towards the Bears' offense improving which is good. Williams is getting more accurate with the football, rookie tight end Colston Loveland is putting together some good practices, and the pre-snap concerns that started on the first day are improving.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson showed his own encouragement that the pre-snap issues are getting better, but wants the offense to eliminate having at least one mistake a game there.
"That's High School Harry stuff that we got to get out of," he said.
Chicago had the last-ranked offense in the NFL last year, with issues all over the place. The offensive line struggled in both pass protection and run blocking. Williams was holding on to the ball for too long, taking unnecessary sacks, and the team struggled to score points consistently.
