It's safe to assume that no Chicago Bears fans were having a perfect time watching the team take a bad 30-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on the road in Week 8.
Everyone was talking about the same old problems this team has had all season: penalties. Lots of them. 11 to be exact, for 79 yards, with the offense continuously having pre-snap issues and Caleb Williams' two intentional grounding penalties.
Another massive mistake in the game occurred in the fourth quarter, when Williams threw an interception deep in their own territory, down by three points. Baltimore turned that into a touchdown and doomed Chicago from potentially coming back.
While the offense has taken most of the criticism for this game, the Bears' defense also did not play well, and the players in the unit know it.
What went wrong with the Bears' defense vs. Ravens
Bears safety Kevin Byard spoke with the media after the game and was asked about what went wrong with the defense. Byard shared the same reasons that others were saying about the offense, but made sure no one was using their injuries as an excuse.
"Yeah I wasn't paying attention to the injuries. It was just more of, we just wasn't doing enough to get off the field. Like I said, we had some penalties in some key spots down there. We got a couple of stops, but it wasn't enough. It wasn't consistent enough stopping the ball. They had too many long drives. They were able to go all the down the field. We got some key red zone stops, but it just wasn't enough today. And obviously, we didn't get any takeaways, so when you don't get any takeaways and their defense got a takeaway as well. So, it just wasn't enough for us."
Chicago was without multiple key players on defense for the game, including all three of its starting cornerbacks —Jaylon Johnson, Tyrique Stevenson, and Kyler Gordon. The Bears placed Gordon on IR a day before the Ravens game.
Fans are hoping that Stevenson will be back for Week 9, on the outside. They are already dealing with Nahshon Wright and Nick McCloud for the time being.
Ultimately, the Bears had one problem: no turnovers. They are 0-3 this season when they create fewer than three turnovers in a game. Making plays on defense makes a significant difference in winning or losing a game.

The good news is that the Bears will face the Cincinnati Bengals, who are coming off a horrible loss to the previously winless New York Jets. If there is a bounce-back game, Chicago will get it with Cincinnati.
