Kyle Monangai is having himself a rookie season.

The former seventh-round draft pick out of Rutgers has 731 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 155 carries and is averaging 4.7 yards per carry, which is tied for the 11th-highest mark in the NFL among running backs with at least 144 attempts.

During the Bears’ 22-16 victory over the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field, Monangai set the tone for the offense in the third quarter. Caleb Williams found Monangai open in the right flat and completed the pass on second-and-9 to his running back.

Monangai ran down the right sideline, but instead of going out of bounds to finish the play, the 5-foot-8, 207-pound back lowered his shoulder into Packers safety Xavier McKinney and gained additional yards to complete the 34-yard gain.

That play earned Monangai the Week 16 Angry Runs winner and the iconic scepter.

Kyle Monangai earns well deserved angry run award

Monangai's catch-and-run was the second-longest play of the game. Only DJ Moore’s 46-yard game-winning touchdown in overtime went for a bigger gain in the Saturday night victory.

Now, Monangai isn’t new to angry runs.

When D’Andre Swift was forced to miss the Week 9 matchup against the Bengals because of injury, the rookie served as the primary running back. Monangai made the most of the opportunity and ran for 176 yards on 26 carries.

He also showcased how tough he is to bring down, which earned him the Angry Runs Scepter in Week 9.

Monangai continues to prove he should have been taken far earlier than the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but the Bears have found ways to showcase his violent running style behind an offensive line that has two Pro Bowlers in Drew Dalman and Joe Thueny.

With two games remaining in the 2025 regular season and a spot in the playoffs already clinched, there will be plenty more opportunities for Monangai to lower his shoulder pads and finish runs like he has been doing throughout his rookie year.
